The band A Kettle Prime - known fondly by their many fans as AKP - formed in the summer of 2007 each
member bringing with them the unique experience of previous bands. In the short period of time
between then and now, the band has had a major impact on the local Maui music scene with its truly
diverse and original sound. Combining elements of rock, funk, jazz and blues A Kettle Prime
transcends the pop mainstream and normal island reggae feel to invigorate their crowd with crafty
compositions and lingering note play reminiscent of today's hottest jam bands. Whether psychedelic
or trance, soaring melodies or in full momentum it seems obvious that A Kettle Prime
is rising.
The band cloaks metaphorically driven lyrics that reach into our daily lives with a thunderous assault; delicately balancing between subtle and melodic to furious and chaotic. This produces the sound where the band truly thrives. A sound that is saturated with honesty and dripping with irony. Whether the band is playing a haunting or melodic version of the same song, they have evolved and in turn the audience has evolved with them. "Both musically and lyrically we are always reaching inside for more, leaving everything out so that everyone else can peek in." Discussing anything from subconscious vs. conscious thought to current political or social issues, A Kettle Prime has arrived with a fresh sound that is bold, fearless and about time.
